Charles Waldegrave leads the Family Centre Social Policy Research Unit. He is a joint leader of the New Zealand Poverty Measurement Project, the New Zealand Longitudinal Study of Ageing, the Research and Measurement for the NZ Living Wage and two current National Science Challenge projects on Ageing Well and Building Better Homes, Towns and Cities.
He is a current international member of the European research collaboration ROSEnet (Reducing Old-age Social Exclusion).
He publishes extensively in NZ and internationally. In 2009, he was made a Companion of the Queen’s Service Order (QSO) for services to Social Policy.
