On Friday 9 November we visited New Plymouth for the final day of our consultation period.

Over 6 weeks we visited towns and cities around New Zealand, visiting Greymouth, Hastings, Christchurch, South Auckland, West Auckland, Nelson, Gisborne, Porirua, Lower Hutt, Newtown, Dunedin, Invercargill, Rotorua, Whangarei, Kaitaia, Palmerston North, Hamilton and New Plymouth.

As well as community forums we also met with service providers, community organisations and held a number of focus groups.

For those who couldn’t get to a forum we ran a survey that could be completed online or in hard copy.

Thank you

Hearing from New Zealanders was a crucial part of our work.  If we are to deliver recommendations that are robust and rigorous enough to last the next 20 years, they must be based on real experiences of people who interact with the system every day.

Thanks so much to those who came to the forums and shared your views, we really appreciate the time, effort and courage that this took.  The feedback has been invaluable and everyone's contribution makes a difference.

What next?

We are now in our deliberation stage, considering everything we have heard and the material we have received as we prepare our report to ministers.  This will be delivered in February 2019, and will include thematic summaries of what people told us.
